In this day

I'm toying with the idea of resurrecting this blog. Not sure how often posts will happen or if I will share them very widely, but these days are unprecedented and I might have something to write about. My kids are doing great with our makeshift homeschool schedule. Mornings are filled with writing and they have been on a poetry kick. Here is my attempt.

The sky mirrors a day in September
brilliant blue and eerily empty

Then people walked in stunned silence
now in distant disbelief

Is this happening, what happened, what will happen?
No one truly knows, at least not here on earth

But there is one who knew, who knows
who is and was and is to come

The invitation is to trust, to believe, to hope, to live.
-Dana Olson (3/16/2020)

Painting
Strokes of oil
Glide from brush
To canvas
Down, around
Creating a new world
A bush, a tree
Look! a sun
Reds, yellows, blues
Swirling from idea to work

One brush stroke, two
Forming a picture
Slowly, carefully
Dip in the paint
Brush across the plain, white canvas
Only stopping to check
Slowly, carefully
A picture is built

You don't know what to make
Maybe a sunset or maybe
Two trees, imagination is
Anything you want
-Hannah, Grace, and Elizabeth (collaborative poem, 3/17/2020)

Love
love is what people are needing
like putting a bandage for someone
bleeding

share the love
and care like a mother dove

you can love
so try
-Elizabeth (3/18/2020)

Darkness, nothing
all alone
sorrows threaten drowning
in their wake
slowly a light
once far draws close
it whispers
"get up, try again
darkness doesn't
have to win."
-Hannah (3/16/2020)

Because of us
The sea is trash
because of us
The world is darkness
because of us
The air is bad
because of us
And only we can fix it
-Grace (3/16/2020)
